London is officially one of the greenest cities in Europe. For the last few years a small group of campaigners has been working to publicise that fact by turning London into the first ever National Park City. Their ambitious plan aimed to connect Londoners to the natural world all around them.
In the official website, we can read: 'Let’s make London the world’s first National Park City. A city where people and nature are better connected. A city that is rich with wildlife and every child benefits from exploring, playing and learning outdoors. A city where we all enjoy high-quality green spaces, the air is clean to breathe, it’s a pleasure to swim in its rivers and green homes are affordable. Together we can make London a greener, healthier and fairer place to live. Together we can make London a National Park City.'
And believe it or not, Londoners joined the bid. Now the campaign was finally declared victory. The majority of council wards – 53 percent of the capital – have backed the idea. London will become a National Park City! The campaigners will start working with the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and others across the capital, aiming to declare official National Park City status in 2019.
Shouldn't we all follow the example?!...
Londres é oficialmente uma das cidades mais verdes da Europa. Nos últimos anos, um pequeno grupo de ativistas tem trabalhado para divulgar esse fato, transformando Londres na primeira National Park City. O ambicioso plano visava conectar os londrinos ao mundo natural em seu redor.
No site oficial, podemos ler: "Vamos tornar Londres a primeira National Park City do mundo. Uma cidade onde as pessoas e a natureza estão melhor conectadas. Uma cidade que é rica em vida selvagem e todas as crianças beneficiam de explorar, brincar e aprender ao ar livre. Uma cidade onde todos nós gostamos de espaços verdes de alta qualidade, o ar é limpo para respirar, é um prazer nadar nos seus rios e onde as casas ecológicas são acessíveis. Juntos, podemos tornar Londres um lugar mais verde, saudável e justo para se viver. Juntos podemos fazer de Londres uma National Park City.
E, acreditem ou não, os londrinos aderiram à campanha e conseguiram! Agora a campanha foi finalmente declarada como vitoriosa. A maioria - 53 por cento da capital - apoiou a ideia. Londres tornar-se-á uma National Park City! Os ativistas vão agora começar a trabalhar com o Presidente da Câmara de Londres, Sadiq Khan e outros em toda a capital, com o objetivo de declarar oficial o estatuto de National Park City em 2019.
Não deveríamos todos seguir o exemplo?! ...
