I'm not lying, I already knew about the existence of this spot through Instagram, and had already included in my agenda to go there next time I would be in London. It turns out that we do not always have the time for everything, and this time Elan Café was taking a back seat.
Until the day when, as I walked between Chelsea and South Kensington, I ran into this fantastic showcase. Best of all, this happened in the late afternoon of an extremely tiring day and I was starving to death...
Conclusion: I went in and I was delighted. If there is a place, where we can truly say that even the eyes eat, this is the place. All the decor is extraordinary, even down to the smallest details and the food is indeed eating and crying for more ... As it was quite hot, I ordered an iced coffee and a kind of strawberry cheesecake (oh and a small round cake, that I still do not know today what was made of, I only know that it seemed like a cloud in my mouth).
As for the environment ... it's mostly female! It's unbelievable how many girls (some younger than others) who go in there just for Instagram photos. It is to see them doing selfies, combing their hair on the cell phone, or taking turns in multiple poses. The truth is this place was created for this. Fashion has caught on and now they have to make the most of it. It is not cheap and who enters has to consume.
Alexandra Miller is the founder of Elan Café. Her story has taken her from Miami to Jamaica to the Middle East to London – she is a fervent proponent of healthful eating and living, and the concept she has created for Élan embodies these passions. And there's also a portuguese behind it. Joao Almeida is the Head of Coffee Operations. He was born and raised in Portugal and as a good portuguese he believes coffee is about spending time with other people. He s a three-time UK Barista Championship finalist and public speaker.
At present there are at least two Elan Café in London: Park Lane in the Mayfair area and Brompton Road in the Knightsbridge area. I went to the latter.
Não vou mentir, já sabia da existência deste spot através do Instagram, e já tinha inclusivamente marcado na minha agenda lá ir numa das próximas vezes que estivesse em Londres. Acontece que nem sempre temos tempo para tudo e, desta vez, o Elan Café estava a ficar para segundo plano.
Até ao dia em que, enquanto andava a pé entre o bairro de Chelsea e South Kensington, esbarrei com esta fantástica montra. O melhor de tudo, é que isto deu-de ao final da tarde de um dia extremamente cansativo e eu estava a morre de fome...
Conclusão: entrei e deliciei-me. Se há um sítio, onde realmente podemos dizer que até os olhos comem, esse lugar é este. Toda a decoração é extraordinária, até nos mais pequenos pormenores e a comida é de facto de comer e chorar por mais... Como estava bastante calor, pedi um café gelado e uma espécie de cheesecake de morango (ah e um pequeno bolo redondo, que ainda hoje não sei do que era feito, só sei que parecia uma nuvem na boca).
Quanto ao ambiente... é maioritariamente feminino! É inacreditável a quantidade de miúdas (umas mais novas do que outras) que ali entram só para as fotos de Instagram. É vê-las a fazerem selfies, a pentearem-se para o telemóvel, ou a revezarem-se em mútiplas poses. A verdade é que é muito disto que se trata este espaço. A moda pegou e agora há que aproveitá-la ao máximo. Não é barato e quem entra tem de consumir.

E há também um português por trás disto. João Almeida é o chefe de operações do café. Ele nasceu e cresceu em Portugal e, como bom português, acredita que o café significa passar tempo com outras pessoas. Ele é três vezes finalista do Barista no Reino Unido e palestrante.
Neste momento, existem pelo menos dois Elan Café em Londres: o de Park Lane, na zona de Mayfair, e o da Brompton Road, na zona de Knightsbridge. Foi a este último que fui.
