Ever since I was little I heard talk on the BBC Proms, but in fact I never had an exact notion of what it was until I lived the experience in full. And believe me, just living ...
First, I got a seat in one of the last concerts in the fabulous Royal Albert Hall. And how wonderful is this room! There is no explanation what I felt when I first entered one of the cabins and looked around. Size, beauty, acoustics ... go far beyond what you can imagine.
After that, as if that were not enough, I did not resist watching the big finale in Hyde Park. I've even experienced major events such as the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012, right in the middle of The Mall, but honestly, I've never seen anything like the BBC Proms in the Park.
Everybody gets dressed up. Without any modesty. Without any shame. Everyone is proud to be British (even those who in reality are not, and if they are, they are only "on loan"). Everyone goes there to have a great time. But, serious fun. And everyone is very well equipped: they take chairs, tables, blankets, drinks, food ... Everyone but me! And the best? The group of people in front of me offered food. Actually, they did not have to care... but it's this spirit that I admire a lot in the British. I don't think I've ever felt so cold in my life, like that night. But, you know what? It was all worth it!
And who's guilty of it all? My father... Yes, it was he who always told me about the Proms concerts and it was him I wanted to surprise of living that experience inside the Royal Albert Hall and out in the Park. And that's the reason I will never, ever forget that night.
Desde pequena que oiço falar no BBC Proms, mas na verdade nunca tive exata noção do que se tratava até viver a experiência em pleno. E acreditem, só mesmo vivendo...
Primeiro, consegui lugar num dos últimos concertos detro da fabulosa sala de espetáculos Royal Albert Hall. E quão maravilhosa é esta sala! Não tem explicação o que senti quando entrei, pela primeira vez, num dos camarotes e olhei em meu redor. O tamanho, a beleza, a acústica... vão muito além do que possam imaginar.
Depois disso, como se não bastasse, não resisti em assistir à grande final em Hyde Park. Eu até já experienciei grandes eventos como foi o Jubileu de Diamante da Rainha em 2012, em plena The Mall, mas sinceramente, nunca tinha visto nada como o BBC Proms in the Park.
Toda a gente se veste a rigor. Sem quaisquer pudores. Sem quaisquer vergonhas. Todos têm orgulho de serem britânicos (até mesmo aqueles que na realidad não o são, e se o são são apenas "por empréstimo"). Todos vão para ali para se divertirem à grande. Mas, diversão à séria. E todos vão muito bem apetrechados: levam cadeiras, mesas, mantas, bebidas, comida... Todos, menos eu! E o melhor? O grupo de pessoas que estava à minha frente ofereceu comida. Na verdade, eles podiam não estar nem aí... mas é esse espírito que eu admiro muito nos britânicos. Acho que nunca senti tanto frio na minha vida, como naquela noite. Mas, sabem que mais? Valeu tudo a pena!
E o grande culpado disto tudo? O meu pai... Sim, foi ele que sempre me falou dos concertos do Proms e foi a ele que eu quis fazer a surpresa de viver essa experiência dentro do Royal Albert Hall e fora. E é por tudo isto que nunca mais esquecerei aquela noite.
