This week started with two different news for me. I went to visit the famous Quinta do Arneiro and at the same time I learnt about the first biological range of Garnier. Luísa Almeida inherited this property dedicated exclusively to organic farming. Quinta do Arneiro is located in the western region of Portugal, close to Mafra, a region where both horticultural products and Rocha pear orchards are of the highest expression. The property has belonged to Luísa's family since 1967.
She was the one who received us and who made us a guided tour through the greenhouses of the farm. "In 2009 we started to have one hectare with organic products. We started selling in the markets, then there was someone who asked us to make a delivery of products at home. From there, we started to make baskets. I was going to deliver them in my own car. Later, my children began to make the deliveries, my housekeeper went with me to make the vegetable garden... everything started like this. And we were growing. Fortunately, we were lucky enough to have a lot of people who started believing in what we did. It was all done without thinking a lot about costs, what we could win or lose with it. It was because we really believed what we were doing. "Luisa revealed.
There are baskets at €20 (with six types of vegetables and three fruits of the season), €25 (equal but plus aromatic herbs or an extra complement like eggs) and €30 (equal, with another type of vegetable and fruit ).
Quinta do Arneiro also has a restaurant and a grocery store. It was precisely here that we were presented with an excellent lunch, filled with numerous entrees, main course and a delicious dessert.
Esta semana começou com duas novidades. Fui conhecer a famosa Quinta do Arneiro e ao mesmo tempo conhecer a primeira gama biológica da Garnier. Luísa Almeida herdou esta propriedade dedicada exclusivamente à agricultura biológica. A Quinta do Arneiro fica situada na região Oeste de Portugal, no concelho de Mafra, região onde tanto os produtos hortículas como os pomares de pêra Rocha são das culturas de maior expressão. A propriedade pertence à família de Luísa desde 1967.
Foi ela própria quem nos recebeu e quem nos fez uma visita guiada pelas estufas da quinta. “Em 2009 passámos a ter um hectare com produtos biológicos. Começámos a vender nos mercados, depois houve alguém que nos pediu para fazer uma entrega de produtos em casa. A partir daí começámos a fazer cabazes. Era eu própria que ia entregá-los no meu carro. Mais tarde, os meus filhos começaram a fazer as entregas, a minha empregada de casa ia comigo fazer a horta… tudo começou assim. E fomos crescendo. Felizmente, tivemos a sorte de ter muita gente que começou a acreditar naquilo que nós fazíamos. Foi mesmo tudo feito sem pensar muito em custos, no que podíamos ganhar ou perder com isto, foi mesmo porque acreditávamos mesmo no que estávamos a fazer.”, revelou-nos Luísa.
Há cabazes a 20€ (com seis tipos de legumes e três frutas da época), de 25€ (igual, mas acrescido de ervas aromáticas ou um complemento extra como ovos) e de 30€ (com mais um tipo de legume e de fruta).
A Quinta do Arneiro conta hoje também com um restaurante e uma mercearia. Foi precisamente aqui que fomos presenteados com um excelente almoço, repleto de inúmeras entradas, prato principal e uma deliciosa sobremesa.
The new range of Garnier is ecological, vegan and directed to the large consumption. It is, most probably, the range of biological cosmetics more affordable, available in Portuguese supermarkets like the Jumbo or Continente. Prices range from € 6.99 to € 14.99.
The new range is made with vegan formulas (not containing any ingredient or derivative of animal origin) and through its labels it is easy for the consumer to see the list of ingredients and their ecological origin. The materials used in the product packaging are 100% recyclable and all of them are made from 100% recycled PET.
The range is then composed of:
Konjac Sponge - 100% vegetable scrub. Cleanses the skin with a gentle exfoliation.
Nutritious and Repairing Argan Line - Nourishes in depth. For dry and sensitive skin.
Regenerating & Anti-Aging Lavender Line - Regenerates skin and smooths wrinkles. Advisable for all skin types.
Blue Centaurea Relieving Line - Cleanser with softness to the skin. For all skin types.
Refreshing Lemon Herb Line - With organic Lemon Herb oil, grown in Sri Lanka, 12% of the total ingredients come from organic farming and 98% from animal sources. Suitable for normal and mixed skins.
TV presenter Isabel Silva is the Portuguese face for this new Garnier range. "I am very happy to see this growth of Garnier, which in itself is already a brand that I like, and realize that as the years go by it is attentive to the market and attentive to these issues of our planet.".
Quanto à nova gama da Garnier, ela é ecológica, vegan e dirigida ao grande consumo de massas. É muito provavelmente a gama de cosmética biológica mais em conta, disponível em supermercados portugueses como o Jumbo ou o Continente. Os preços variam entre os 6,99€ aos 14,99€.
A nova gama é feita com fórmulas vegan (não contendo qualquer ingrediente ou derivado de origem animal) e através das suas etiquetas é fácil ao consumidor ver a lista de ingredientes e a sua origem ecológica. Os materiais usados nas embalagens dos produtos são 100% recicláveis e todas as elas são fabricadas com PET 100% reciclado.
A gama é, então, composta por:

Linha Argão Nutritivo e Reparador – Nutre em profundidade. Para peles secas e sensíveis.

Linha de Centáurea Azul Apaziguante – Desmaquilha com suavidade a pele. Para todos os tipos de pele.
Linha de Erva Limão Refrescante – Com óleo de Erva-Limão biológico, cultivado no Sri Lanka, 12% do total dos ingredientes são provenientes de agricultura biológica e 98% de origem animal. Indicado para peles normais e mistas.
A apresentadora de TV Isabel Silva é o rosto português para esta nova gama da Garnier. “Eu estou muito feliz de ver este crescimento da Garnier, que por si só, já é uma marca que eu gosto e de perceber que à medida que os anos vão passando está atenta ao mercado e está atenta a estas questões do nosso planeta. E eu não sou fundamentalista, não sou vegana.”.
In addition to getting to know the new range of Garnier, we also had a teas workshop and a showcooking with presenter Isabel Silva and Inês Simas. During the teas workshop we had the opportunity to taste a series of teas and at the same time we were challenged to guess what tea would be. Prune Herb, Pink Mallow, Lavender, Citrus Herb and Nettles were some of the teas we came to know. Fernanda Botelho, a plant specialist, was the one who gave us all the guidelines, while teaching for what medicinal purposes many of those teas can be used. I learned that rosemary tea is good for concentration, that Mauve is good for people with Crohn's disease, that Marigold is good for treating conjunctivitis and cysts on the ovaries, and that lavender serves to stop the blood of wounds.
Além de termos ficado a conhecer a nova gama da Garnier, tivemos também um workshop de chás e um showcooking com a apresentadora Isabel Silva e Inês Simas. Durante o workshop de chás tivemos a oportunidade de degustar uma série de chás e ao mesmo tempo fomos desafiados a adivinhar de que chá se trataria. Erva Príncipe, Malva Rosa, Lavanda, Erva Cidreira e Urtigas foram alguns dos chás que ficámos a conhecer. Fernanda Botelho, especialista em plantas, foi quem nos foi dando todas as diretrizes, ao mesmo tempo que ensinou para que fins medicinais podem ser usados muitos daqueles chás. Fiquei a saber que o chá de alecrim é bom para a concentração, que o de malvas é bom para quem sofre de doença de Crohn, que a calêndula é boa para tratar as conjuntivites e os quistos nos ovários, e que a alfazema serve para estancar o sangue das feridas.
