This year is celebrated 20 years of the premiere of the film "Notting Hill". One of the most romantic ever and also one of my favorites. It was in May that the film debuted in the United States, although in Portugal only arrived in August 1999. After having seen the film countless times, I discovered that there are still things I did not know...
1. Thanks to this film, Julia Roberts has become the highest paid movie star in the world. She received 15 million dollars (more than 13 million euros). And she's still in the top 10 most-paid actresses today - according to Forbes, it grossed $ 13 million in 2018 (about 11.5 million euros).
2. The bookstore of the character played by Hugh Grant was, in fact, an antique shop. Two doors ahead was the production studio of screenwriter Richard Curtis. Shortly after becoming famous, the British singer Adele bought the top floor of the building where they were filmed the scenes of the bookstore, but she only lived there a short period of time.
3. The famous blue door of the house where Hugh Grant's character lived was a real house and belonged to Richard Curtis. A year after the film's premiere, it was eventually sold and the original door was auctioned by Christie's, and is now owned by a property in Hope Caven (Devon). Nowadays, many people still pass through door 280 of Westbourne Park Road in Notting Hill.
4. When Richard Curtis saw the movie for the first time, he noticed that he had a very similar argument to "Four Weddings and a Funeral": the main male character (Hugh Grant) was also in love with an American who traveled from time to time to the United Kingdom. Initially the film had 3 and a half hours and then had to be shortened to 124 minutes.
5. Anyone who saw the film got the impression that Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant had the perfect chemistry. But it was not exactly like that. Initially, the relationship between the two was not very cordial. Grant made some uncomfortable comments about Julia's big mouth.
6. Julia Roberts has always been Roger Mitchell's first choice for the role of Anna Scott, but he never believed she would accept it. To convince her, her agent only had to say that it was the "best romantic comedy ever."
7. Julia Roberts did not agree with some of the sentences in the script. One of them was the famous quote of Hollywood actress Rita Hayworth: "Lie down with Gilda, but wake up with me." Julia would have hated to have to say this, for not agreeing with it and for being negative to the class of Hollywood actresses.

It turns out that this same bank is in Queens Gardens, in East Perth (Western Australia). An inhabitant of Perth anonymously donated the bank to the city, where it remains in an enclosed garden. Foi no mês de maio que o filme estreou nos Estados Unidos, embora a Portugal só tenha chegado em agosto de 1999. Depois de ter visto o filme inúmeras vezes, descobri que ainda há coisas que eu desconhecia...

6. Julia Roberts foi desde sempre a primeira opção do realizador do filme Roger Mitchell, para o papel de Anna Scott, mas nunca acreditou que ela aceitasse. Para convencê-la, o seu agente só teve de dizer que se tratava da "melhor comédia romântica de sempre".
7. Julia Roberts não estava de acordo com algumas das frases do guião. Uma delas era a famosa frase da atriz de Hollywood Rita Hayworth: "Deitam-se com a Gilda, mas acordam comigo". 8. Há muita gente que continua a procurar o famoso banco de jardim que serve de cenário em várias cenas românticas entre Hugh Grant e Julia Roberts. Acontece que esse mesmo banco encontra-se em Queens Gardens, em East Perth (Australia Ocidental). Um habitante de Perth doou anonimamente o banco à cidade, onde permanece num jardim fechado. Mas o jardim, esse sim, existe em Londres.
