My passion for London is already well-known... you can imagine what it was like when I entered the Instagram page of Clafuti Kidswear and discovered that there was a line of clothes with British motifs.
Well, I do not need to say anything else. I wanted the skirt, I wanted the tie, I wanted the shorts ... But this brand does not stop here. There are a number of other lines that make up the spring-summer 2019 collection and so many new things that are yet to come.
So that you can know a little more about the brand, I spoke with Alexandra Ferreira, the face behind this project:
When did the idea to create this brand come up ? I am a psychologist and have been practicing for 12 years. About 3 years ago I decided to stop to be able to spend more time with my family. I have two children and like all mothers, I always got lost with the clothes for them. After a lot of seeing (and buying), I thought I could create a different style and with higher quality fabrics, which unfortunately find themselves less and less. This, coupled with my taste for fashion and clothing, led to the project in March 2018.
Was there any previous connection to fashion? Professionally not. Only as a hobby. I trained, I was self-taught in order to develop more and more my knowledge and skills in the area.
Why this name "Clafuti"? The name Clafuti is inspired by the word clafoutis which is a French cherry cake that I love! The sound of the word also evokes children's play and has a fun air, which is what we want to transpose to our collections. Chic casual clothing, comfortable and with a boho touch. Above all, it allows children to continue to play and be happy regardless of the occasion and without the embarrassment of uncomfortable or overly formal clothing.
Is it sold in some physical spaces, or just online? At the moment, it is only available online, but who knows in the collection AW 19/20... maybe we will have news!
Are the clothing and accessories produced here in Portugal? The parts are all produced in small manufacturing units in the area of Viseu. A fact of which I am very proud even because it is where I live and I that way I can contribute to the development of the interior center of Portugal that suffers so much from lack of employment.
What kind of fabrics / materials are most used? It has always been a concern to look for quality fabrics, with a pleasant touch and composition mostly of natural fibers (cotton and linen). The environmental issue is very present in the brand and beyond this option for more natural fabrics, we have changed our packaging in order to eliminate the use of plastics.
Available sizes are between what ages? We mostly work in the age group from 2 to 8 years, however we have some options for the little ones and the bigger ones as well. Occasionally, we have some mother / child proposals.
8. Are there any new items prepared until the summer? There is! and will be revealed soon.
9. How often do new things come up? We try to post news at least every 15 days.
10. I noticed that in the middle of the collections there are different lines ... like this one, for example that I loved, with patterns of British guards ... Do you expect to have more pieces of this line? It is true that the brand has a rather eclectic style, as we also are. One day we like to wear a midi skirt with sneakers and another a long dress with ethnic airs. But what can not miss is comfort without losing the aesthetic of the piece. We like to do things that look beautiful to us and try to escape the more classic style. The Britania line was in fact very successful, for the originality of the fabric. At this moment and unfortunately, we can no longer continue the line but you never know...
As soon as I looked at the dress, I noticed the perfect finishes! All details are thought to be a comfortable outfit for a child to wear. It reminded me of my grandmother's clothes - she was a great seamstress and still loves to enjoy every detail. And well... what I can tell is that Bia loved it. You can see that through the next photos. The only problem? She keeps asking me to go see the Queen...LOL Next time we wil!
A minha paixão por Londres é já sobejamente conhecida... podem, portanto, imaginar como é que fiquei quando entrei na página de Instagram da Clafuti Kidswear e descobri que havia uma linha de roupa com motivos britânicos.
Bom, não preciso dizer mais nada. Eu queria a saia, eu queria o laço, eu queria os calções... Mas esta marca não se fica por aí. Há uma série de outras linhas que compõem a coleção de primavera-verão 2019 e outras tantas novidades que ainda estão para chegar.
Para que possam conhecer um bocadinho melhor a marca, eu falei com a Alexandra Ferreira, o rosto por detrás deste projeto:
Quando é que surgiu a ideia de criar esta marca? Eu sou psicóloga e exerci a atividade durante 12 anos. Há cerca de 3 anos decidi parar para conseguir estar mais tempo com a minha família. Tenho dois filhos e como todas as mães, sempre me perdi com as roupinhas para eles. Depois de muito ver (e comprar), achei que conseguia criar um estilo diferente e com tecidos de maior qualidade, que infelizmente se encontram cada vez menos. Isto, aliado ao meu gosto pela moda e pela confecção, fez com que em março de 2018 avançasse com o projeto.
Já havia alguma ligação anterior à área da moda? De forma profissional não. Ligação à moda e à confecção sempre tive como hobby. Fiz formações, fui autodidata de forma a desenvolver cada vez mais os meus conhecimentos e competências na área.
Porquê este nome "Clafuti"? O nome Clafuti é inspirado na palavra clafoutis que é um bolo francês de cerejas que eu adoro! A sonoridade da palavra também evoca as brincadeiras das crianças e tem um ar divertido, que é o que nós queremos transpor para as nossas coleções. Roupa casual chic, descontraída, confortável e com um toque boho. Sobretudo que permita que as crianças possam continuar a brincar e serem felizes, independentemente da ocasião e sem os constrangimentos de roupa desconfortável ou demasiado formal.
Ela é vendida em alguns espaços físicos, ou apenas online? Neste momento, só está disponível online, mas quem sabe na coleção OI 19/20 já haja novidades!
As peças de roupa e acessórios são produzidos cá em Portugal? As peças são todas produzidas em pequenas unidades fabris na zona de Viseu. Facto do qual me orgulho muito até porque é a minha zona de residência e consigo assim contribuir para o desenvolvimento da zona interior centro que tanto sofre com falta de emprego.
Que tipo de tecidos/materiais são mais usados? Sempre foi uma preocupação procurarmos tecidos de qualidade, com toque agradável e composição maioritariamente de fibras naturais (algodão e linho). A questão ambiental está muito presente na marca e além desta opção por tecidos mais naturais, alterámos o nosso packaging de forma a eliminarmos o uso de plásticos.
Os tamanhos disponíveis são entre que idades? Trabalhamos maioritariamente a faixa etária dos 2 aos 8 anos, no entanto temos algumas opções para os mais pequeninos e os mais graúdos também. Pontualmente, temos algumas propostas mãe/filho(a).
Há ainda novidades preparadas até ao verão? Há sim! e serão reveladas em breve.
De quanto em quanto tempo costumam aparecer novidades? Tentamos publicar novidades de 15 em 15 dias no mínimo.
Percebi que no meio das coleções há diferentes linhas... como esta, por exemplo que eu adorei, com padrões de guardas britânicos...
Contam voltar a ter mais peças desta linha? É verdade que a marca tem um estilo bastante eclético, como nós também o somos. Um dia apetece-nos vestir uma saia midi com sapatilhas e outro um vestido comprido com ares étnicos. Mas o que não pode faltar é conforto sem perder a estética da peça. Gostamos de fazer coisas que nos parecem bonitas e tentar fugir ao estilo mais clássico. A linha Britânia teve, de facto muito êxito, pela originalidade do tecido. Neste momento e infelizmente, já não conseguimos dar continuidade à linha mas nunca se sabe...
Assim que olhei para o vestido, reparei nos acabamentos perfeitos! Todos os detalhes são pensados para ser uma roupa confortável para uma criança usar. Fez-me lembrar as roupas que a minha avó fazia - ela era uma ótima costureira e ainda hoje adora apreciar cada detalhe. E bem ... o que posso dizer é que a Bia adorou. Podem ver isso através das próximas fotos. O único problema? Ela não pára de me pedir para ir ver a Rainha ... LOL Da próxima vez nós vamos!
